VA Long Beach Healthcare System: Veterans Photography Exhibit
Director of Charitable Works attended the Veterans Photography Exhibit at the VA Long Beach in November. Prints were on display, and the photographers were in attendance ready to speak about their work. “I was able see their beautiful photographs, but more importantly I got to meet several of the Veterans and discuss with them how photography has helped them to find a hobby, form new friendships, and find a purpose,” she said.
As a form of recreational therapy, the VA Long Beach provides photography classes and encourages Veterans to create their own businesses for selling their photographs. Business cards could be seen with each photographer’s display so that prospective buyers could contact them directly for orders. Field trips around Long Beach, California provided a good amount of subject matter for the snapshots.
“There was a comradery amongst the photographers at the event. They talked about each other’s work and pointed me in the direction of photographs I might like by their fellow photographers. The passion for the skill was clear as was the support from the VA at the event.”
